Location

City of sea, plains and mountains, located in the Metropolitan Area of Porto, the second largest in the country.

Póvoa de Varzim benefits from a strategic location in the North of Portugal which, together with its seaside location and remarkable heritage, makes this city an attractive hub for tourists, new residents and entrepreneurs. Here you find the main roads connecting North Portugal with Spain, with Braga and Guimarães (Unesco World Heritage Sites) towards the interior regions and south to the city of Porto (Unesco World Heritage Site). In addition to the motorway, the connection to Porto is ensured daily by metro light railway services. Póvoa is also served by Porto airport (30 minutes away) and Vigo airport (1.5 hours), with a total of more than 100 international air connections.

The territory of Póvoa de Varzim is marked by very specific geographical diversity, spread over 83 km² a plain with sandy soil, where, with ingenuity and effort, people have dedicated themselves to horticulture, in soils richly fertilized with natural fertilizer offered by the sea - sargasso seaweed; in the inland zone, the altitude is higher with forest cover and farms surrounded by vines on trellises. The Serra de Rates hills is the transition zone between the sandy plains of the coast and the soils of the inland areas.
